Terms of Service
Effective May 21, 2026
Welcome to Chapters. These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Chapters LLC (“Chapters,” “we,” or “us”) governing your use of the Chapters website and app (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Who may use Chapters
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using Chapters, you confirm that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity that happens under your account. Please let us know promptly if you believe someone has used your account without permission.
What Chapters does
Chapters helps you write a memoir by asking questions, by voice or in writing, and by compiling your answers into written chapters and a book you can keep or print. These features are assisted by artificial intelligence.
Because of that, the questions and the compiled writing may sometimes be imperfect or inaccurate. The story is yours to review, edit, and approve. Chapters is a tool for preserving your memories; it does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice.
Your stories belong to you
You keep all ownership of the stories, photos, and other content you put into Chapters. We do not claim ownership of it.
So that the Service can work, you give us permission to store, process, display, and compile your content, and to share it with the providers who help us run the Service (for example, to generate chapters, read your story aloud, or print your book), solely to provide the Service to you. We do not sell your content and do not use it to train artificial-intelligence models. This permission ends when you delete your content or your account, except for copies that may remain briefly in routine backups.
Using Chapters responsibly
When using the Service, please do not:
- Break the law or use Chapters for unlawful purposes.
- Upload another person’s private or sensitive information without their consent.
- Infringe anyone’s intellectual-property or privacy rights.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service.
- Use the Service to harass, harm, or impersonate others.
Plans, billing, and renewals
You can begin Chapters free. To keep writing beyond the free trial, a Personal subscription is $12.99 per month. Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel, and the card on file is charged at the start of each period.
You can cancel at any time. When you cancel, you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for, and your stories remain saved to your account. Prices may change in the future; if they do, we will give you notice before a change applies to you.
Gifts
A Chapters gift is a one-time purchase of $99 that provides the recipient three months of access and one printed-book credit, sent by email as a redemption code. Gift access begins when the recipient redeems the code. Gift purchases are non-refundable once the redemption email has been sent, except where required by law.
Printed books
A printed book is a one-time purchase of $59.99, with shipping included. Printed books are produced and shipped by a third-party print provider. Because each book is made to order, an order generally cannot be changed or canceled once it has been sent to print. If your book arrives damaged or defective, contact us and we will make it right.
Payments and refunds
Payments are processed securely by our payment processor; by purchasing, you also agree to that processor’s terms. Except where stated above or required by law, payments are non-refundable. If you believe you have been charged in error, write to us and we will look into it.
Our intellectual property
The Chapters name, design, software, and other materials we provide are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. These Terms do not give you any right to use them except as needed to use the Service.
Copyright complaints
We respect intellectual-property rights. If you believe content on the Service infringes a copyright you hold, write to us at hello@my-chapters.com with a description of the work, where the material is located, your contact information, a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized, a statement made under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act, and your signature. We respond to valid notices as required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
The Service is provided “as is”
We work hard to keep Chapters available and dependable, but the Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, error-free, or that it will preserve your content without fault. Chapters is not a substitute for keeping your own copies of anything important to you; we encourage you to download or print your book.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chapters and the people who operate it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Indemnification
You agree to be responsible for claims arising from content you provide that you did not have the right to share, or from your misuse of the Service in violation of these Terms.
Resolving disputes
We hope never to have a dispute, and most can be settled quickly. Before bringing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us at hello@my-chapters.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally.
If we cannot, you and Chapters agree to resolve any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service through binding individual arbitration rather than in court, except that either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court. Arbitration will be administered by a recognized arbitration provider under its consumer rules, in the State of Texas or, at your election, your home county.
You and Chapters waive the right to a jury trial, and agree that claims may be brought only in an individual capacity and not as part of any class or representative action. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable, then this entire arbitration section will not apply to that claim.
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by writing to us at hello@my-chapters.com with your name and a clear statement that you opt out. Opting out will not affect any other part of these Terms.
Changes and ending the Service
We may update these Terms or the Service from time to time. When we make a meaningful change to these Terms, we will revise the date above and, where appropriate, let you know within the Service. Continuing to use Chapters after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
You may stop using Chapters and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these Terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, or if we are required to by law.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Texas will have jurisdiction over any disputes, except where the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
General
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Chapters regarding the Service. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business. Neither you nor Chapters is responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control, such as natural disasters, outages, or acts of government. These Terms do not create any rights for anyone who is not a party to them.
